Massachusetts DeMolay is proud to announce the newest member of the state staff, Dad Hans Schwartz! Dad Schwartz steps into the brand new role of Executive Assistant and will be involved in the planning and implementation of several projects and programs. Take a moment to read about him. Don’t forget to welcome him to the fraternity!
Dr. Hans Schwartz has spent his professional career as a high school and college educator here in Massachusetts and, in his younger days, Japan. He has a Ph.D. in history and teaching licenses in biology and history. He is the author of the book Freemasonry in the Revolutionary Atlantic World, as well as a contributing author in several other books on the history of freemasonry.
Dr. Schwartz spent the first six years of the new millennium in Japan where he taught English and earned a black belt in the traditional sword fighting art of iaido. At the conclusion of his extensive travels across Asia and Australia, Hans returned to the United States and became a special education teacher. Once he was back on home soil, he became involved in the masonic fraternity, joining Mount Carmel Lodge (Lynn) in 2006. Ten years later, he was elected Worshipful Master, where he served for two years. He has also been active in the Shriners, serving as a drummer in the pipe band, and the Scottish and York Rites. After several years of teaching, Dad Schwartz entered graduate school, during which time he taught as a professor at Northeastern, Endicott, and several other local colleges. Prior to joining the executive office at DeMolay, he most recently taught at Wakefield High School as a remote teacher during the pandemic year.
Hans lives with his son Aidric, daughter Isadora, and wife Patricia. In his (limited) free time, he enjoys strength training and martial arts. He can usually be found at Aidric’s hockey games on weekends.
