Brian K. Flight Flower Talk Champion
The Brian K. Flight Memorial Flower Talk Competition champion is named after a young man from Saugus Chapter, Order of DeMolay.
He was a graduate of Saugus High School in 1987 and was a young man with the heart of a giant. While he never went through the officers chairs of his chapter, Brian loved the Flower Talk and was able to win the statewide competition at several times.
When Brian was set to deliver the talk, the chapter room was always packed and it is said that he delivered the piece with such a heartfelt and passionate voice that his words always made the mothers cry.
Brian also had Cystic Fibrosis. His DeMolay brothers informed us that they never believed he suffered from this disease because of his strength of character. He never complained or let the disease get him down. Brian’s life was defined more by the friends that he made and the challenges he overcame.
At one point, as Brian’s condition deteriorated and he was in the hospital, he asked a fellow chapter member to “keep the guys close and make Saugus DeMolay the best.” Brian lost his battle with Cystic Fibrosis in the autumn of 1987.
He was a true DeMolay right until the end.
