Class is now in session! The State Officers have been toiling tirelessly since August to build the program for DeMolay University. Class will be held on Sunday, October 26, at the Lowell Masonic Building. The day will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost on the day is $10 per person. Applications for enrollment are now open and end on October 20 at midnight. The curriculum will focus around DeMolay; both the man and the organization. Students will rotate throughout the day to three different classes based on their age: “Walking & Talking,” “What Does it Mean?” and “DeMolay, Foiled Again!”
RITL 110 – Walking & Talking
Instructor: Dad Jacob Yanovich (3 credits)
This course gives a more modern spin to the ritual we have come to know and love; taking the words of Dad Frank Marshal and evolving them into the twenty-first century. Walking & Talking will also focus on floor work and how to practice crisp, precise movements.
HIST 105 – What Does it Mean?
Instructor: Dad David Price (3 credits)
There is a great deal of history and symbolism hidden in between the lines of the Initiatory and DeMolay degrees. This course will delve deeper into that history and revisit Jacques DeMolay during his seven year imprisonment and the multitude of trials and tortures he endured.
PHED 150 – DeMolay, Foiled Again
Instructor: Guard Up Fencing Club (2 credits)
Swordsmanship was as important to a Templar as his faith was. The ability to wield a sword was what made them the effective fighting force they became renowned for. This course takes the fighting spirit of a Templar and use it to master a finer blade; the foil. Learn from the fencing masters at Guard Up on posture, footwork, and swordsmanship.
Any DeMolay that is attending DeMolay University must complete and submit a waiver to allow them to participate in fencing. Waivers can be found here or on Guard Up’s website. Registration will be made through FEMS (just like Conclave). A tutorial has been created to register for DeMolay University. Questions can be directed to SMC MacLean Rankin.
